As a practising interpreter or translator, membership of WAITI gives you a voice that is heard and respected by both government and industry. The people who represent you are elected by you from among your colleague interpreters and translators.

As a member of WAITI you will be informed of the latest issues concerning our industry, and will have the opportunity to provide input to policies and matters affecting our profession.

Membership Categories and Benefits

Membership Category

Members

For persons who are actively engaged in interpreting and/or translating and possess tertiary qualifications at Advanced Diploma or higher in interpreting and/or translating or have accreditation at least at NAATI Professional level.

Associate Members

For persons who are actively engaged in interpreting and/or translating and possess tertiary qualifications at Diploma level in interpreting and/or translating, or have accreditation at least at NAATI Paraprofessional level. Other persons qualified in the field of linguistics or languages, with academic standing and demonstrated interest in the field of interpreting and/or translating may also be admitted under this category.

Country Members

For persons who are actively engaged in interpreting and/or translating and possess tertiary qualifications from an Award Course in interpreting and/or translating or have accreditation at least at NAATI Paraprofessional level, living more than 100 km outside the Perth greater metropolitan area. This category of membership is also available to interstate and overseas practitioners.

Student Members

For students of translating and/or interpreting.
(Only available to unaccredited persons enrolled in an award course.)

Social Members

For persons with an interest in the aims of the Institute.

Life Members

Awarded to long–standing members who have given outstanding service to the profession and the Institute.

Fellows

Members with at least five years’ standing who are actively engaged in interpreting or translating, or in the provision of professional development activity, and who possess qualifications and experience acceptable to the Executive Committee, or have given outstanding services to the profession, or have accreditation at least at Conference Interpreter or Advanced Translator level.

Honorary Members

For persons of distinction who contribute to and support the profession of interpreting and translating, who are otherwise not eligible for membership in any other category.
